OBITUARY
MR R. S. FORSYTH
(Rec. 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 22. The death has occurred of Mr R. S. Forsyth after six months’ illness in a London hospital. He was formerly European manager of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. After the outbreak of war he became the Ministry of Food’s Director of Imported Meat Supplies. The Minister of Food, Lord Woolton, in a tribute to Mr Forsyth, said the success of the meat control arrangements was due in no small measure to Mr Forsyth’s farsightedness, knowledge and influence.” Those of us who knew him best valued him also for his practical commonsense and loyalty, which were so important when the scheme of control was put into operation, also for his generous character, strong personality and unfailing cheerfulness, which were a constant inspiration to everybody who worked with him,” said the Minister. VALUE OF SERVICES PRAISED WELLINGTON, August 23. The Deputy Prime Minister (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) commenting on the death of Mr R. S. Forsyth said New Zealand had lost one of its outstanding representatives in the United Kingdom. Mr Forsyth, who had been London manager of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board since its inception had given signal service to New Zealand meat producers, the Meat Board and the Dominion and by his capacity and personality had done much to extend the outlets for New Zealand meat.
The High Commissioner for New Zealand (Mr W. J. Jordan) had been asked to convey the sincere sympathy of the Government to the relations of Mr Forsyth in their loss.
