Sporting WILL CARY GOES NORTH

PROMISING SOUTHLAND TROTTER Will Cary, one of the most promising straightout trotters produced in Southland for many years, will in future do his racing from a Canterbury stable. He was railed to Christchurch this week.

By Quite Sure from Carbinea, Will Cary now five years old, won three races in six starts last season. He began his career by running unplaced at Invercargill last November and at his second start, at Gore on Boxing Day, he was also unplaced. A day later, at the Winton meeting, he opened his winning account by taking the South Hillend Handicap, beating among others the well-performed Sea Max.' Three months later he won a double in impressive style at the Invercargill Trotting Club’s meeting and showed good quality in winning over two miles from 60 yards behind. His next and last appearance for the season was in the Menzies Handicap at the Wyndham meeting, but in that event he behaved badly and refused to leave the mark. For a young trotter he has pace and stamina much above the average good trotter and if his manners improve, as they probably will do with age and racing, he should develop into one of the foremost trotters in the land. Will Cary is owned by Mr W. M. Norman, of Forest Hill, who bred him, and he was trained and driven last season by E. Todd. Red Owl

Red Owl was not brought back to Southland after the Grand National meeting. According to a northern writer he will be used as a hunter in South Canterbury. Branxholm

Branxholm is the name given to the colt by Salmagundi from Venite. Susie

Susie, the Nigger Minstrel-Inductor mare, who was not raced last season, is now being trained by J. R.,Cochrane, at Gore, She has been nominated for the hurdles race at the Otago Hunt meeting. Two seasons ago Susie showed promise as a hurdler, but her best was a third to Araboa at Invercargill. Retired

Rosaleen Dhu has been retired from racing and will be mated with Haughty Winner, the Winning Hit stallion now standing at Gore. Rosaleen Dhu won a highweight at Gore last spring and at Dunedin at Christmas she ran-second in the two hurdles events. Since then she has had plenty of racing over hurdles and the bigger country, but she has not proved a good proposition. She is an aged mare by Valkyrian from Kilberry.

Jocanta Jocanta, a steeplechaser, was brought to Gore to join T. G. Pollock’s stables after the Grand National meeting.

Expresses To Stop Arrangements have been made for the express trains from and to Invercargill to stop at Caversham today, the day of th® patriotic meeting at Forbury Park, and the usual 4.48 train to Clinton has been delayed until 5.30 p.m.
