SUPPLIES OF WASTE PAPER
CONFIDENTIAL DOCUMENTS NOT RELEASED A question whether old records of the Southland Hospital Board containing confidential information were released as waste paper was asked by a member at a meeting of the board yesterday. The secretary (Mr A. M. Williams) said care was taken to ensure that papers containing confidential information did not become available to the public. Such papers were used by the staff in office work. The chairman (Mr T. Golden): You must get a considerable amount of waste paper—such as all the unpaid accounts. (Laughter.) The secretary replied that the board had extensive resources of waste paper. The chairman remarked that in the early days a man robbed a bank at Fortrose and took away all the books. Later he admitted that the only satisfaction, he had was that he knew the state of the accounts of all the persons in the Fortrose district. He had a fortnight to peruse the books before he was arrested.
