Late News LOSS OF CRUISER AND DESTROYER
(Rec. 2.10 a.m.) LONDON, August 19. The loss of the anti-aircraft cruiser Cairo and the destroyer Foresight in the recent Mediterranean convoy action is announced by the Admiralty. In addition, as already announced, the British lost the aircraft-carrier Eagle and the cruiser Manchester. The Cairo was completed in 1919 and the Foresight in 1935. BRITISH NAVAL LOSSES LONDON, August 19. Since the outbreak Britain has lost 415 warships of all types, though a great number of them were small ships. The Navy’s efficiency has not been impaired, because feverish building by day and night has kept its strength at a point where it is still the most formidable sea force in the world. The losses include 3 battleships, 2 battle-cruisers, 5 aircraft-carriers, 22 cruisers, 14 merchant cruisers, 83 destroyers, 38 submarines, 11 corvettes, 10 sloops, 1 monitor, 152 trawlers and 3 hospital ships, 7 transports, 20 minesweepers and 2 minelayers. NEW YORK, August 18. It is reported from Cairo that a record contingent of the American Expeditionary Force has arrived in Egypt.
