Appointment of Squadron

Leader Gilkison

Squadron Leader S. L. Gilkison, a well-known Invercargill airman, has has beeli appointed to the command of a New Zealand air station.

Squadron Leader Gilkison, who is a son of Mr and Mrs A. S. Gilkison, Avenal Flats, was educated at Waihopai school and John McGlashan College, Dunedin. He was assistant instructor to the Southland Aero Club before his appointment, in 1936, as instructor to the Western Federated Flying Clubs at Wanganui. Subsequently he received an appointment as a pilot for Cook Strait Airways. As a reserve officer of the .Royal New Zealand Air Force, Squadron Leader Gilkison was called up at the outbreak of war and has since served in several departments of the R.N.Z.A.F.
