TAR-SEALING OF CITY STREETS
SEASON’S PROGRAMME
Because of limited finance the only tar-sealing to be carried out in the city this season is to portions of . Earn, Conon, Ythan and Ness streets. This was decided by the City Council last night on the suggestion of the city engineer, who stated that funds available for this work in the 1942-43 season amounted to £520. The following streets remained on the programme of work approved by the council in July, 1941:—Earn street (Clyde to Ness street, less one block completed), 32 chains; Conon street (Grace to Scandrett) 16; Ythan street (Grace to William) 27; Ness street (Grace to Manse) 28; Grace street (Conon to Bluff) 15; Thomson street (Eamslaw to Fox) 15; Eamslaw street, 19. Total, 152 chains. The city engineer added that the sum of £520 would be sufficient for about 100' chains, so that the first four streets only could be done. From time to time the council had received requests to tar-seal the whole or part of the following streets: —Lowe, Morell, Albert, Wellington,, O’Hara, Liddel, Venus, McMaster, Avenal, Janet, Ritchie, Beatrice, John, Martin, Newcastle, Bourke, Clifton, Princes, William, Crinan and Bowmont. The engineer added that of these only Venus, Ritchie, Janet and Newcastle streets seemed to be important for traffic. Cr A. Scott, chairman of the Works Committee, said that the council would like to do more tar-sealing in the city, but it had not the money.
