DEBATING CONTEST

For the annual debate between the Marist Debating Club and the Borstal Educational Class the subject selected was "That all lorms of sport should be abolished in New Zealand in war time.” The topical interest of the subject influenced the speakers on both sides to use arguments amusing in their extremes.

The Marist team supported the affirmative and the Borstal team the negative. The judge, Major J. Stobo, congratulated both teams and awarded the decision to the affirmative. The chairman, Mr M. Miller, who is also chairman of the Borstal committee, presided. He expressed his thanks to Mr Mathews, sub-superintendent of the Borstal, to Major Stobo for adjudicating, to Mr R. G. Webb, coach of the Borstal class, the Marist team and supporters. Mr G. C. Meffin, president of the Marist Debating Club, replied.
