OTAPIRI AND LORA COMMITTEE
Sir,— During the radio appeal on Saturday evening for patriotic funds it was stated that the Otapiri and Lora committee among others had not sent in a donation. In fairness to this patriotic committee I should like to give you a few facts and figures. We have put up, and still are putting up, pretty good effort. We have a few more than 30 householders in our district and to date we have raised for patriotic purposes just on £lOOO. We canvassed the district a few weeks ago and raised just on £200; otherwise we could perhaps have made quite a showing over the air on Saturday night. But it is not always those who make the most noise who are doing the work. There are in most country districts live committees who are doing a pretty good job and getting results, and I would suggest that we be left to work along our own lines. Let the Invercargill committee look after its own centre, which compared with most of the country districts, is not pulling its weight. GEOFF BLANKS, Chairman, Otapiri and Lora Patriotic Committee. Otapiri R.D., August 17, 1942.
