WHITE v. WHOLEMEAL

Sir, —In your issue of August 5 there is a report of a talk given by Mr F. Lange to fellow Rotarians, in which he is stated to have claimed that wholemeal bread does not have the nutritive value of white bread. Such a claim is entirely unsupported by any evidence to be found in the vast quantity of scientific research which has been done on the relative merits of white and wholemeal bread, and we feei that we cannot let such a statement go unchallenged. In the present national emergency to which Mr Lange himself refers, such ill-considered advice is indeed mischievous. N.Z. WOMEN’S FOOD VALUE LEAGUE. Mary L. Saker, Assistant Secretary. Auckland, August 13, 1942.
