COMFORTS FOR SOLDIERS
Sir,—Your correspondent P. L. Hodge states that the Government of New Zealand, by legislation, has authorized the provincial councils to collect all patriotic funds. Mr W. M. C. Denham in his radio talk over the air this evening has just assured us that the Government is not in any way interfering with any of the funds collected or the business of the National Patriotic fund board. In the Gazette we read as follows: “The Patriotic Council can spend money only on an approved patriotic purpose, meaning thereby “approved by the Minister.” “The regulations are administered by the Minister and the administrative officers are officers of the Public Service. “The Minister may make such rules as he thinks fit and such rules shall have full force and effect.” BLUNDER. Invercargill, August 18, 1942.
