DECISIONS AFFECTING HOME GUARD
ARMY VEHICLE FOR EACH HEADQUARTERS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 15. The Army was unable to accept the responsibility of providing for the replacement of tyres of vehicles used for Home Guard purposes, the Hon. W. J. Polson, a member of the War Cabinet, stated today. Guardsmen who required replacements would have to apply for a licence in the ordinary way. Mr Polson said other matters concerning which decisions had been made were that provision was to be made to exempt members from parades when battalion commanders were satisfied that a member was required for essential work during the busy one Army vehicle .would be made available for the headquarters of each battalion;, and members of the Home Guard who had passed the compulsory age of 51 would be required to continue to serve. Mr Polson said that it might be necessary to extend the age for Home Guard service. He added that members were required to parade in civilian clothing until uniforms were issued.
