MODIFIED SHOW TO BE HELD

DECISION BY A. AND P. ASSOCIATION

A decision to hold a modified one-day summer show next December, provided that the war situation had not deteriorated, was reached by the directors of the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday. The president (Mr T. Hamilton) said he considered that the association should endeavour to hold a one-day show, including competitions, light horse and sheep sections. He did not think in the circumstances it would be possible to include cattle sections. It was desirable that an effort be made to keep the summer show alive. The association could probably hold a creditable fat stock show and a good display of horses, said Mr J. S. Marshall. A one-day show would help to retain the interest of members.

The president said it had been suggested that a similar modified show be held at Gore. The Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs Association might assist with the show, said the secretary (Mr A. L. Adamson). Mr Marshall said a lot of exhibitors would like to know now whether a show would be held so that they could arrange to prepare stock for the show. The opinion that the meeting should decide to go ahead with a show was expressed by Mr A. M. Weir. It would be difficult to maintain the interest of members unless a show was held and it would be hard to revive it after the war. Mr J. J. McCrostie moved that the association hold a show, subject to the war situation not deteriorating, and that a schedule committee submit a recommendation of classes. The motion was carried. Advice was received from the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board that the district competition in export lambs would be held under the same conditions as last year. It was. decided to confer with the Gore Association about arrangements for the competition. After a short discussion it was decided to recommend cattle breed associations to arrange for the inspection of cattle offered at the annual bull fair held by the association.
