The Russians have withdrawn again in the Armavir region. The Germans are advancing towards Grozny and it is obvious that they intend to try to occupy Makhachkala, on the Caspian, thus cutting off the Russian armies in the north from their oil supplies. From Makhachkala they could also dominate the Caspian from the air. If the Germans captured Stalingrad they could also cut the supply route up the Volga.
