INSTITUTE OF SECRETARIES.— The Southland chapter of the New Zealand Institute of Secretaries held its annual meeting on Monday night. The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr W. F. Stunnan; vice-chair-man, Mr Charles Campbell; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr B. Noble; honorary auditor, Mr A. L. Adamson; committee, Messrs W. F. Sturman, Charles Campbell, C. B. Gibbs, J. W. Wood, R. C. Cook, C. J. McEachran, G. S. Warwick, J. R. E. Sutton, P. A. Holmes, R. Walker, J. S. Ferguson, J. M. McCrostie and H. C. Gimblett. CHIMNEY FIRE.—The Invercargill Fire Brigade received a call at 4.51 p.m. yesterday to a chimney fire at the residence of Mr John Bateman at the corner of King and Sydney streets. No damage was caused, the fire being easily extinguished with a bucket pump.
