LONDON, August 10.

During the week ended August 8 British air losses over Germany and Occupied German territory were 17 •nachines. Two German aircraft were shot down. The Ruhr was attacked on three consecutive nights when Duisberg was the chief target. Over occupied territory fighters continued to disrupt enemy communications, attacking railways and coastal shipping. Enemy activity over Britain was on a slightly increased scale and was mostly in the coastal areas. Thirteen German machines were shot down.

In the Middle East British losses were 26 and enemy losses nine. On Sunday, after having visited the bombed Ruhr centres of Cologne, Dusseldorf and Aachen, Dr Josef Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda, spoke over the German home radio. He referred to the “deep emotion” with which he had heard of the ordeals endured by the citizens at the hands of the ruthless Royal Air Force.” Still, he insisted, high strategy must come before civilian suffering. The thoughts of the Fuhrer were always with the people of the raided cities.
