SOUTHLAND BOWLING CENTRE

“The finances of tile centre are at present on a sound footing; our credit balance stands at £147/1/1,” states a clause in the annual report of the Southland Bowling Centre to be submitted to club delegates at the annual meeting of the centre. The total membership of the 29 clubs affiliated to the centre is 969, compared with 936 last year. During the season the centre contributed to the patriotic fund the net revenue from the Easter tournament, a sum of £42/18/9. Clubs contributed sums totalling more than £lOO. EASTERN SUB-CENTRE ~ A decision that no inter-club competition for the Eastern Southland Cup be played this season, but that arrangements be made between the clubs for friendly matches, was made at the annual meeting of the Eastern Southland Bowling Sub-Centre. Mr D. F. Tait was chairman at the meeting and the president of the Southland Centre. Mr I. W. Martin, was also present. The following office-bearers were elected: President, Mr L. T. Brown; vice-president. Mr M. Mitchell; secretary, Mr J. Ritchie; fixture committee, Messrs Ritchie and S. Preece; postponement committee, the supervisors of greens; selectors, Messrs W. Buchanan, N. Stark and H. Graham. It was decided to support the nomination of Messrs J. Ritchie and D. F. Tait on the Southland management committee, and Mr G. Smith as a Southland selector. A decision was made that it be a strong recommendation to the Southland Centre that the Eastern-Southland match, consisting of 12 fours, be again played this season. The secretary reported that the Mayor of Gore was desirous of having the competition known as the Mayor’s pairs re-estab-lished and was prepared to give a suitable trophy. Mr Shelton's offer was accepted with thanks and the secretary was Instructed to consult him about the type of competition to be played.
