ALLIES STILL FIGHT IN TIMOR

(Special Australian Correspondent, N.Z.P.A.)

(Rec. 10.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 9. Australian and Dutch troops are still fighting against the Japanese in Timor. It was revealed from General MacArthur’s headquarters that Australians formed part of the garrison which landed on the island last December to forestall any attempt by the Japanese to use the territory as a base. Although strong Japanese forces have seized Koepang and Dilli, an Allied force has continued to fight. The resistance is described as organized and not merely guerrilla fighting.
