TWO NEW MEMBERS
STABILIZATION COMMITTEE Although no announcement of changed personnel was given by the then Acting-Prime Minister (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) when he announced that the Stabilization Committee would resume its sittings, the committee, which sat recently, has undergone some changes. When the committee met again recently, Mr A. T. Donnelly, who is chairman of the Bank of New Zealand, and was also chairman of the Economic Stabilization Committee, was absent because of ill-health. The personnel of the committee announced last September by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) was: The Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash), the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan), Messrs Donnelly, W. Marshall, a member of the Dairy Industry Council, and C. V. Smith, president of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Association, the Hon. R. Eddy, M.L.C. (president of the New Zealand Workers' Union), and Messrs A. McLagan, president of the Federation of Labour, and F. D. Cornwell, secretary of the federation. Mr Nash is now in Washington, and his place as one of the Government members has been taken by Mr McLagan, who since the appointments were announced has been made a Minister. Mr Eddy went to the United States as a workers' representative to the International Labour Conference shortly after the original committee was announced. He did not sit, and has been dropped from the new committee, his place being taken by Mr F. p. Walsh, secretary of the Seamen's Union, who took part in the negotiations with the National Party for the setting up of the War Administration.
