AGREEMENT NOT REACHED
AWARD FOR FACTORY EMPLOYEES No agreement was reached by the Conciliation Council when the first award for the employees of the New I Zealand Milk Products Ltd. factory at Underwood was the subject of negotiations at Invercargill on Friday, The parties, which have worked under an industrial agreement for many years, agreed on many of the minor clauses, but the main ones concerning wages, hours of work, overtime and statutory holidays were referred to the Arbitration Court.
The Conciliation Commissioner (Mr S. Ritchie) presided. The employers’ representatives were Messrs C. J. Abigail (industrial officer for the Nestle Anglo-Swiss Milk Co., Ltd.), J, Chilwell, H. F. Drewe and J. Darragh. The assessors for the Southland Milk Condensing Factory Workers’ Union were Mr W. S. Whitty (advocate), Miss J. Rhind and Messrs H. Sheffelbein and F. Rhind.
