HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS
ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL MEETING
“In spite of the great difficulties which confront us, I hope that in the coming yeax- all members will make every effort to carry on the activities of the association,” said the newlyelected president, Mi - R. W. Murray, at the annual general meeting of the Southland High School Old Boys’ Association on Saturday night. Mr Murray said that the members should do everything they could to make the association thrive and he hoped that they would see that the progress which had been made in the past two or three years was maintained. The retiring president, Mi - E. H. Smith, congratulated the club on its successful year. There were difficulties to be faced in the incoming season, he said. There were 198 Old Boys in camp at present and this number would be very largely augmented in. the future. However, the difficulties would have to be overcome.
Mr J. L. Cameron congratulated Mx - Smith on his work in the past year. Mi - Smith had always been very enthusiastic and he considered that the association had its most successful period so far while Mi - Smith was president.
On taking the chaix- Mr Murray endorsed the expressions of appreciation of Mi- Smith’s services and said he hoped that Mi - Smith would continue to take an active interest in the activities of the association.
It was decided that the subscription fox - the magazine be the same as last year and that 1/- should be paid by I those members of the association who ! desire a copy. The following officers were elected: — Patrons, Sir Robert Anderson, Dr - G. H. Uttley and Messrs J. T. Carswell and R. M. Strang; president, Mr R. W. Murray; senior vice-president, Mr - R. W. Strang; vice-presidents, Messrs E. H. J. Preston, E. H. Smith, R. Taylor and G. I. Mayhew; secretary, Mx - I. B. McCurdy; treasurer, Mr - S. G. Richardson; executive, Messrs B. R. Peterson, J. Hynd, F. Dillon, W. Pittaway and representatives of affiliated sports bodies; hon. auditor, Mr H. R. Wilcox. At the conclusion of the meeting the annual smoke concert was held and the following toasts were honoured:—“The King”; “The School” (proposed by Mr E. H. Smith and replied to by Dr Uttley); “Old Boys on Active Service” (Mi - R. W. Murray—Messrs R. Sutton, A. J. Kingsland, O. Davis, R. Derbie, O. Williams and K. Muir) ; “Kindred Associations” (Mr J. Torrance—Mr W. Weeds, Technical College, Mx - J. K. Clark, St. Andrew’s College and Mx - H. Belsham, Gore High School).
