PATRIOTIC CONCERT AT WAIMAHAKA

£4O FOR LONDON AIR RAID DISTRESS FUND

A successful patriotic concert was given by the Invercargill Returned Soldiers’ concert party, assisted by other performers, at Waimahaka on Saturday. The sum of £4O was raised, and it will be given to the fund for the relief of London air raid victims. Mr J. Beattie, who presided, thanked the performers. . Mrs B. S. Hammonds and Miss Dorothy Foothead sang solos and Messrs P. Linton Hodge, J. Neilson, Rewi Kingsland and A. W. Kummert took the solo parts with the Returned Soldiers’ chorus. Mr W. B- Holding entertained with conjuring tricks, Mr C. Paine with humorous items, Mr J. Gilchrist with his talking doll and Messrs H. Fraser, S. Symon and Holding with banjo items. The Returned Soldiers' party presented several humorous sketches and pupils of Miss Jean Miller gave dancing items. Community singing was led by Mr Hammonds. Mr N. Armstrong was the accompanist for the evening. A flag collection was taken up during the singing of “There’U Always Be An England.”
