WEDDINGS

BRADLEY—NEILSON The wedding was celebrated recently at Elmwood of Ruth Ada, youngest twin daughter of Mr and Mrs N. Neilson, of Round Hill, and William Alfred, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Bradley, Bowmont street. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. Gardiner. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a model frock of wine under an edge-to-edge coat. Hie bride’s cousin, Miss Jean Jenkins, was bridesmaid. She wore a black pin-striped costume and black model spring hat. Mr Maurice Bradley, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.

The reception was held at Elmwood Garden where 30 guests were received by Mrs Neilson, assisted by Mrs Bradley. Mr and Mrs W. A. Bradleys home will be in Ritchie street, Invercargill, the bridegroom will shortly leave for camp. HILLIS—EDWARDS The wedding was solemnized in the Anglican Church, Riverton, by the Rev. J. N. Goodman, . of Ivan Gray, younger son of Mrs F. J. Hillis, “Te Arriers,” Thornbury, and Jean Alison, third daughter of Mr and Mrs L. E. B. Edwards, Bluff. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a model frock of powder blue with hat, shoes and gloves of wine shade. The bridesmaid was Miss Pamela Edwards, sister of the bride. She wore a frock of dusky pink and hat and accessories to tone. Mr D. Fallow was best man, and Messrs N. Hillis and L. Edwards were the ushers. After the ceremony, the reception was held at the Aparima Hotel where the guests were received by Mrs Edwards and Mrs Hillis. During the reception songs were sung by Mrs S. H. Mitchell. For travelling the bride wore a musquash coat over her frock. r ~ GRANT—MCDONALD A quiet wedding was recently solemnized at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Invercargill, when Janet McKerchar (Netta), youngest daughter of Mrs D. K. McDonald, 262 Spey street, Invercargill, and the ’ate Mr McDonald, was married to Alan Douglas, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. Grant, of Lake Hayes, Arrowtown. The Rev. C. J. Tocker performed the ceremony, and Mrs A. E. H. Bath played the organ. The church was decorated with daffodils and spring blossoms by friends of the bride. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr Gordon McDonald, wore a deep cream satin frock, cut on classical lines. Miss Edna A. Keast was bridesmaid. She wore a frock of japonica georgette.

The bride’s twin nieces, May and Mabel McEwan, were flower girls. They wore long frocks of forget-me-not blue tafettas.

Mi - Colin A. Grant, of Gore, the bridegroom’s brother, was best man. During the signing of the register, Miss Jean Waddell sang a solo. The reception was held at Elmwood Garden, where the guests were received by Mrs McDonald and Mrs Grant. At the reception, Mr Lawrence Adamson sang a solo.

For travelling the bride wore a hyacinth c®ue frock and hat, and navy coat, slwes and accessories. Before her wedding the bride was entertained at an evening by the staff of Broad Small, Ltd., and presented with a bronze log box, and a gift afternoon by Misses Edna Keast and Amelia McBurney.

FAREWELL PARTY AT RIVERTON

Before her departure to Gore to take up nursing, the friends of Miss E. Bailey met at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. McKenzie, South Riverton, to bid her farewell. The evening was spent in games, and a competition was won by Mr E. Mitchell. On behalf of the basketball girls, Miss Janet More made a presentation of a clock, and on behalf of the guests Miss K. Church presented a fountain pen to Miss Bailey.

COUNTRY NEWS

OTAUTAU Mr and Mrs John Thomson are the guests of Mr and Mrs J. H. Smith. Mr and Mrs G. Strang spent the week-end with Mr and Mrs A. Low, Bayswater. Mrs R. Bird has returned from a holiday in Dunedin. Miss Reay McFadgen is visiting friends at Palmerston. Mrs W. Humphries spent a few days at Woodlands during the week. Mrs Dickson, Riverton, is the guest of Mrs D. Stephens. Miss M. McKenzie spent last weekend in Dunedin. Mrs G. Bone has been spending a few days with Mrs Chisholm, Invercargill. Miss Gould left during the week to visit friends on the West Coast. WOODLANDS Misses Dwyer, Invercargill, were the week-end guests of Mrs G. M. Dennis. Miss Bonna Jones has returned to Makarewa after being the guest of Miss M. Riddell. Misses R. Morton and J. Preston, Seaward Downs, were recently staying with Mr and Mrs A. Calder. Mr and Mrs J. Pye were the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Waddell before leaving the district to live at Thornbury. Miss Ferguson, of Gore, is staying with her sister, Mrs B. Henderson. OREPUKI

Mrs W. King, Waituna, has been the guest of Mrs W. Shaw. Miss D. Young has returned to her home after spending several months in Wellington. Mrs Purdue has returned from Invercargill where she was the guest of Mrs R. Feaver.

Mr and Mrs F. Boyd and their family have taken up residence in Lewis street, Invercargill. Mrs Miller has returned to Waipounamu after being the guest of her parents, Mr and Mrs A. Lennon.

Mrs T. D. Barnett has returned from Invercargill, where she was the guest of her mother, Mrs Smith.

Miss A. Brown, Riverton, spent a few days with her parents, recently. Mr and Mrs A. Amos, Tuatapere, were the week-end guests of Mr and Mrs W. Herrick, sen. Mrs G. Whipp has returned to Clinton after being the guest of Mrs a C. O. McKeown.

Miss I. Shaw has returned to Invercargill

Mr and Mrs D. S. Wilson, Invercargill, were the recent guests of Miss A. Shaw.

Miss M. Bennett was a visitor to Riverton during the week. Mrs A. L. Suddaby, Alton Valley, Tuatapere, has been spending a few days with her mother, Mrs M. Moylan. Miss D. Meager, Heriot, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs E. Meager.
