“A God-Given Opportunity”
“I believe that when a country is at war the men in the forces are peculiarly sensitive to spiritual truth,” said the Rev. A. V. Whiting in the course of an address at Christchurch on the work of the British and Foreign Bible Society. “I believe this time is a Godgiven opportunity to get the Word of God into the hands of the men in the forces and so to further the work of the British and Foreign Bible Society. Today all kinds of schemes are aiming at helping the material and bodily comfort of the men; we should give generously to those schemes. But we Christian people of the British Empire should be mindful of the spiritual needs of the men and should not neglect the unspeakable privilege we have of taking this opportunity to spread the Gospel and further the work of the British and Foreign Bible Society.”
