PETROL RESTRICTIONS

To The Editor Sir, —When the Automobile Association, the Chamber of Commerce, the Progress League and such bodies declare that industry is suffering through the shortage of petrol, do they mean themotor garages? If so, their appeal is based on poor grounds. The garages are not an essential industry. To give the private motorists more petrol to run around with just to provide bigger dividends for the motor industry would be extremely foolish. For 20 years those in the motor trade have had a roaring good time and they should have some reserves to see them through the critical war months without any wasteful support. We might just as well drink more beer to assist the hotels or let off crackers to help the Chinese laundries.—Yours, etc., MOTORIST. September 27, 1940.
