UNSUITABLE RADIO SERIALS

“STRICTER CENSORSHIP IS NEEDED’’

A decision to support the Hawke’s Bay Education Board in its complaint about the type of some of the radio serials broadcast in New Zealand was made by the Southland Education Board at its meeting yesterday.

The chairman (Mr S. Rice) explained that the Hawke’s Bay Board objected to the “blood-and-thunder” type of serial and also complained that there were many items broadcast which were of no educational value at all.

“There should be a stricter censorship exercised,” added Mr Rice, “and there is a need for some educational authority to give advice.” It was unanimously decided to support the Hawke’s Bay Board.
