CATTLE FROM LAKES DISTRICT

SPECIAL SALE AT YARDS TODAY

Back and high-country cattle of the highest quality will form the offering at a special sale of stock at the Lorneville saleyards this afternoon. About 600 head, almost all of which have been rounded up on stations in the Lakes District, will be offered at auction. Some of the cattle have been on the roads for the last two weeks, but when they were yarded yesterday few signs of their long and wearying trek were noticeable. For the most part the cattle were in excellent condition and generally they reflected the good quality of grazing and special feed which was obtainable throughout Southland and the Lakes District during the winter and early spring. Good forward stores make up the greatest part of the offering; there are also some fat bullocks and about 130 head of young stock—two-year-old steers and mixed-sex yearlings. The Hereford breed is well represented.

Interest in the sale is not confined to Southland and Otago dealers. About 12 Canterbury buyers are expected to be present. Many of the visiting stock men are expected to reach Invercargill by the express this afternoon. Tire sale will begin at 1.30 p.m.
