ANGLING SEASON REVIEWED

SOUTHLAND CLUB’S ANNUAL

MEETING

A successful season’s activities were reviewed in the report presented at the annual meeting of the Southland Anglers’ Club which was held last night. The six competitions which had been held during the season were all keenly contested, stated the report. All streams appeared to be well stocked, with the fish in good condition. The annual quadrangular shield competition among teams from Gore, Mataura, Wyndham and Southland had been held on the Waimea Stream. The Gore Club controlled the competition, which it won. The Southland Club would control the contest in the coming season. In view of the fact that the club performed a useful service to anglers in assisting to improve and conserve fishing in the district, the executive urged members to try to increase the membership list. The president’s cup awarded to the angler gaining the heaviest catch of fish for the season was won by Mr G. Hoffman (321 b 14oz) with Mr G. Friend (241 b lloz) runner-up. Competitions were won as follows, the net weight, less handicaps, of fish weighed in being given:—First: B. Henderson, 5 fish (sJlb) 1, L. Birss, 5 fish (51b) 2. Second: G.
