UNION FEES
To The Editor Sir,—Your correspondent, “Female Member,” has brought to light a matter that should be gone into by the Clerical Workers’ Union. I have been a member of the union for three years and have found the fees heavy but did not know how to alter them as we have not a book of rules. I have a sister who is a member of the Christchurch Clerical Union. The women members pay only 2/3 a quarter in union fees and they are under the same award. Why it costs 26/- a year for fees in Invercargill and only 10/— a year in Christchurch should be explained to the members at the annual meeting. The union does not matter to me as I have always been paid more by my employer than the award rate, yet I have to pay union dues. The female members of the Accountants’ Union pay only about 10/- a year and if they can run their union on 10/- a year our larger union should be able to do so. 1 agree with “Female Member” that all women and girl members should attend the meeting on Thursday and express our views on the matter and find out how we can alter the fees to a reasonable amount. — Yours, etc., ALSO A MEMBER.
