WAIRIO

COMMUNITY SING A large crowd attended the community sing in aid of the Wairio patriotic funds, the song leaders being Messrs G. W. Gardner and J. R. Cutt, with Mr H. Barnfield as accompanist. The rest of the programme was staged by the Aparima Workers’ Educational Association. The conductor was Mr Harold Hogg, while Mrs H. Hogg was the accompanist. Competitions were won as follows: Note, Zita Pointer (Nightcaps); dressed fowl, Master B. Ronald; chocolate cake, Mrs J. Burgess; dressed fowl, Master J. Gunn. A children’s competition was won by Master Maurice Forde. At the conclusion of the programme Mr C. H. Withers, on behalf of the Wairio Patriotic Committee, thanked the Aparima company for the excellent programme submitted, which had helped to swell the funds of the Wairio Patriotic Committee. Mr J. A. Beck replied on behalf of the Aparima Workers’ Educational Asscciation. EUCHRE EVENING The fortnightly .euchre evening run by the Wairio branch of the Patriotic Committee was again well attended, the prize-winners being as follows: Women, Mrs J. Gunn, consolation, Mrs G. Taylor; men, Mr A. W. Keen, consolation, Mr J. Hogan. A competition was won by Miss V. Steans.
