SUB-ASSOCIATION MEETS
A decision that in future all clubs should pay not later than March 1 their affiliation fees to the Eastern .Southland Lawn Tennis Sub-Association was made at the annual meeting of the sub-association last night. The question was raised by Mr D. S, McLeod, who said that by the amounts received from the various clubs it was obvious that all clubs were not paying fees on their total membership. The Citizens’ Club had the smallest membership of any club in the competition last ■season, yet its affiliation fees were higher than those of a number of the other clubs. It appeared that clubs were paying on financial members only, but it was a rule of the sub-association that fees must be paid on the total membership. Dr J. H. Baird said that the position of the Wyndham club was that it had a large number of junior players, and affiliation fees had not been paid . on these members. Junior members paid a subscription of 5/- only, and it was unreasonable that a fee of 2/6 a member should be paid from this amount. There ’ was considerable discussion whether or not fees should be paid on unfinancial members, and a motion that in future clubs should pay on adult financial members was carried. Mr H. A. Price was chairman at the meeting, and the following delegates were present: Messrs F. J. Townsend and D. G. Williamson (Gore), J. C. Heath and Dr Baird (Wyndham), Messrs G. L. Gardyne (St. Andrews), D. English (Anglican), D. S. McLeod (Citizens) and the secretary. Mr L. O. Wallis.
When speaking, to the annual report, the chairman said the sub-association had experienced a successful season and had finished with a credit balance of £B/6/5. This was mainly due to the increased affiliation fee and to the work of the secretary. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr Price; vice-presidents, Dr Baird and Mr Townsend; secretary and treasurer, Mr Townsend; auditor, Mr H. R. Robertson; Invercargill representative to the Southland Association, Mr T. H. McMillan; match committee, Messrs Townsend, Williamson and Gardyne; selection committee, Dr Baird and Messrs Townsend and Williamson. It was decided that matches be played fortnightly, and that the competitions begin on October 19. Entries were received for five teams in the A grade and seven in the B grade.
