APPEAL CLOSED IN JUNE
REPLY TO COMPLAINTS OF RED CROSS ACTIVITY (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 24. When the Auckland telegram about complaints against the Red Cross continuing to raise funds for the sick and wounded was referred to Major J. Abel, who is honorary Dominion treasurer and honorary organizer for that appeal, he said that the appeal was finally closed in June and ncr individuals or organizations or even the joint council itself was in order in promoting functions or endeavouring to raise funds for the sick and wounded. Every branch had been circularized to that effect many weeks ago. Major Abel added that it was still legal for the joint council to receive direct donations to the fund, but it was definitely not in order to promote money-raising functions.
