SUDDEN DEATH OF MR A.E. JULL
MEMBER FOR WAIPAWA (United Press Association) HASTINGS, September 24. Mr Albert Edward Jull, member of Parliament for Waipawa, collapsed and died suddenly tonight at Waipawa. He was 76 years old.
Mr Jull was well known in the political field, having stood on several occasions unsuccessfully in the interests of the Liberal Party against the late Sir George Hunter. On the latter's death, Mr Jull was elected the member for Waipawa as a United Party repre - rntative in 1930, and the following year was re-elected in the interests of the Coalition Government. At the 1935 election he was the official National candidate in a field of four, his opponents being Messrs H. M. Christie (Labour), W. L. Barker (Democrat) and J. D. Ormond, jun. (Independent National). The seat was won by Mr Christie. Mr Jull regained the seat in 1938, when ] . defeated Mr Christie in a close contest. For many years Mr Jull was keenly interested in local politics. He had a long term a- chairman of the Napier Harbour Board. While a member for the district he was included in a number of important Parliamentary investigation committees.
