Mr F. T. M. Kissel, electricity controller and chief electrical engineer of the Public Works Department, who has been visiting Southland, left Invercargill yesterday for Milton and Dunedin. While in Southland he visited the Monowai generating station and met the Southland Electrical Advisory Committee.
Messrs M. M. Macdonald (president), F. W. G. Miller (secretary) and D. A. Dunn, of the Automobile Association (Southland) , will leave for Christchurch tomorrow to attend the annual meeting of the South Island Motor Union on Friday.
Mr C. S. Mac Kay left Invercargill yesterday afternoon on a business visit to Dunedin.
Mr Percy Shaw, who has been on a visit to Invercargill, left yesterday on his return to Auckland.
Mr W. J. Wesney, of Otautau, left by the express yesterday morning to attend a meeting, of the Municipal Association executive council in Wellington.
Mr R. Watkins, business agent for the Railways Department in Invercargill, left yesterday for Wellington on departmental business. Mr W. T. Springford, retiring president of the Ex-Pupils’ Swimming Club, was unanimously elected a life member of the club at the annual meeting of members last night. The Rev. J. H. Robertson, minister of St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church, Christchurch, who has been visiting Mr and Mrs J. Lindsay, “Edzell,” South Hillend, is visiting his brother, the Rev. W. J. Robertson, Invercargill, before' returning north. Mr J. S. Dick, manager of the Southland branch of the South Island Motor Union Mutual Insurance Association, will leave for Christchurch this morning to attend the annual conference of branch managers Mr J. Hobson, who was a representative of the National Mutual Life Assurance Office in Invercargill for ten years and has been supervisor for the Prudential Office in Otago and Southland for the past eight years, has returned to Invercargill to represent the Mutual Life and Citizens Assurance Company as supervisor for Southland.
Messrs W. D. Shelton and H. H. Doughty, members of the Gore Rotary Club, were visitors to the weekly luncheon of the Invercargill Rotary Club yesterday. Lieutenant-Colonel A. Cowles, president of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association, has been appointed secretary and organizer of the Wellington Home Guard Committee. Mr L. Stewart, who has been on the staff at St. Andrew’s College, Christchurch, for about 20 years will be head master during the absence of Lieuten-ant-Colonel J. B. Mawson in the military forces. Mr Stewart served with the Royal Air Force in the Great War.
Mr L. A. Tracy (Wellington) has been appointed to the New Zealand Boxing Council as treasurer, filling the vacancy caused by the death of Mr E. A. Dawson.—Press Association.
Captain D. C. W. Cossgrove, New Zealand temporary staff, officer in charge of sick and wounded records for the Southern Military District, has been transferred to a similar position at Army Headquarters, Wellington. War-rant-Officer Staff Sergeant-Major R. W. Borland has been promoted to be sec-ond-lieutenant, and will take charge of the sick and wounded records at Southern Military District Headquarters, Christchurch.
Captain A. H. Andrews, New Zealand Army Ordnance Corps, a former All Black footballer and an old boy of New Plymouth High School, has been promoted to the rank of major, the promotion to date as from August 1. Major Andrews is the son* of Mr and Mrs L. H. Andrews, Okato.
