KNOCK-OUT IN FEW MINUTES LES BRANDER BEATEN BY ALABAMA KID (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 23. One of the shortest boxing contents on record in Auckland took place at the Town Hall tonight, when the Alabama Kid, of America, knocked out Les Brander, of Australia, within two minutes and a-half of the beginning of the first round. The American, who. had previously landed some snappy, hard punches with either hand, followed a left hook with a powerful right uppercut which landed flush on the point of his opponent’s jaw. Brander was lifted off his feet and it took some time to revive him after he had been counted out.
WHIPPET_RACING TATHAM CUP TO ROLLING HOME The Southland Whippet Racing Club held its Tatham Cup meeting under unfavourable conditions, but although the track was heavy some fast times were recorded. A feature of the meeting was the success of Mr A. Rayner’s Rolling Home, which won the Tatham Cup and the Second Class Stakes. Results are as follows:—
