GORSE SEED WEEVILS The secretary of the Bluff Domain Board (Mr H. A. ' Ferguson) has received from the chief entomologist at the Cawthron Institute, Nelson, a supply of 250 gorse seed weevils. These insects are shaken on to a mass,of gorse in bloom where they lay their eggs in the green seed pod, their larvae consuming the seed contents. Although the seeds are destroyed the gorse continues to grow and flower as usual and grubbing must be resorted to in paddocks covered by th'e plant. The weevils are intended for the control of the seeding of gorse, more particularly where the plant is grown as a hedge.
