ROWING

; INVERCARGILL CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING 12 MEMBERS SERVING IN FIGHTING FORCES The keenness shown by members of the Invercargill Rowing Club during the past season was the subject of comment in the annual report presented at the club’s annual meeting last night. There was a good attendance of members. Mr J. B. Pasco presided. It was decided to .open the new season on Saturday, October 12. The club was represented at the Riverton, Bluff, Invercargill, Port Chalmers and Queenstown regattas, stated the report, and while the crews did not meet with a great deal of success, they gave good displays of oarsmanship and members showed great keenness. Financially, the result of the season’s efforts had been satisfactory, the club having opened the season with a credit balance of £l/5/6 and closed with a credit balance of 4/10. The sum of £lO had also been paid to the Sports Trust. At the end of the season, the plant had been attended to, and all that remained to be done was the fitting up and the usual painting and varnishing. Members had shown great consideration in handling the plant during the year and breakages had been kept down to a minimum.

“In the call to arms our members have played their full part,” continued the report. Twelve members had enlisted. They were F. M. Adams, A. C. Cuff, M. Fearn, A. Hughes, E. J. McLaughlin, M. Crosbie, C. W. Wilson, P. Amas, C. P. Mason, F. Lawton, R. Simon and P. Jaquiery. With so many members away with the fighting forces, it will be hard to bring the membership up to full strength, but we hope to keep the club strong until they return,’ added the report. It was resolved to retain all members serving with the fighting forces on the active membership list, and to send them a copy of the balance-sheet and report.
