LABOUR CANDIDATE’S SUCCESS IN N.S.W.

SYDNEY, September 18.
Mr A. Williams, the official Labour candidate, won the Ryde by-election, beating Mr A. J. Mitchell, the Government candidate, by 230 votes. Mr Mitchell led on the primary count, but the big proportion of the second preferences for Labour in the votes for the Independent candidates placed Mr Williams ahead.
The final figures were: Williams, 10,908; Mitchell, 10,678.,
