FURTHER RISE YESTERDAY
BEEF AND MUTTON ' ■ s VALUES STORE SHEEP MARKET FIRMER In practically all sections the yarding at the weekly Lomeville stock sale yesterday was smaller numerically than it was the previous week. Fat cattle values showed a further increase of about £1 a head all round, while in some cases they were even firmer. One particularly prime bullock from a good line of Longwood cattle brought as high as £23. Values in the fat sheep section were also firm, showing an increase of from 4/- to 5/- a head on the previous week.
A comparison of the yarding in the different sections with those of the previous week is as follows:
The fat cattle yarding was a good quality one, some exceptiopally prime steers and heifers being offered. The market showed an advance of from 15/- to £1 a head all round. Prime heavy ox beef made up to £23, prime handy-weight bullocks from £l6 to £lB, lighter and unfinished £l2 to £l3/10/-. Extra prime cows made up to £lB, good handy-weight cows from £l3 to £l5 and lighter sorts from £9 to £lO/10/-. Prime heavy heifers brought to £l6/10/-, medium weights from £l3 to £l5 with lighter sorts from £lO to £ll/10/-.

STORE CATTLE The store cattle entry was smaller than last week’s, values being slightly easier than for some weeks. A line of three and four-year-old bullocks realized £l3, with the two-year-olds out of this line making £lO. Best empty cows brought up to £6/15/-, medium sorts from £4/10/- to £5/10/- and culls down to £3. Mixed coloured two-year-old steers made from £7/10/- to £B/10/-, and mixed sex yearlings brought from £3/5/- to £4/10/-, In the dairy section there was a very small entry. Best sorts made up to £ll, others bringing from £7/10/- to £9 and culls down to £4.

The yarding included a few pens of good quality wethers, but very few prime ewes. The presence of several outside buyers resulted in a rise of from 4/- to 5/- a head on the rates ruling the previous week. Prime heavyweight wethers brought from 44/9 to 48/-, prime mediumweight wethers from 42/6 to 45/-, medium from 36/- to 38/- and lighter from 32/- to 35/-. STORE SHEEP The store ineep yarding was only about half the size of that of the previous week. The sale was a good one, values being better than those ruling at recent sales. Ewe hoggets made from 32/- to 33/6, wether hoggets bringing -up to 24/-. A pen of fullmouth breeding ewes made 28/3, while ewes and lambs made from 13/6 to 16/3 all counted. A line of 4 and 6-tooth wethers realized 30/6. Southland Fanners’ Co-operative Association Ltd. sold:—Client, 16 ewe hoggets at 33/-. J. R. McLean (Tussock Creek), 95 ewes and lambs at 16/3. KEEN DEMAND AT McNAB SALE
DAIRY COWS BRING GOOD PRICES
A feature of the fortnightly McNab stock sale held yesterday was the entry of a herd of 28 dairy cows offered by the Southland Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Ltd., on account of Mr J. H. Collett, of Pukerau, who is giving up dairying. The herd, which was made up of good young cows, brought forward in splendid condition, met with a good demand and brought from £lO/10/- to £l6/15/-. Late calvers sold down to £6.
There was a good yarding of fat cattle forward and good prices were realized. Prime heavy bullocks brought from £l6/5/- to £l7/10/-, and fat steers realized from £9/17/6 to £l2/7/6. Fat cows sold up to £9. The sheep entry was a small one. Full and failing-mouth ewes brought up to 17/-, and ewe hoggets realized 32/-.
