“From a membership and playing point of view the season was again a highly satisfactory one,” stated the annual report of the Gore Tennis Club which was presented at the annual meeting of the club last night. “The enthusiasm displayed by members was encouraging and it was not an uncommon sight to see all five courts occupied during the major part of the season.

The club congratulates the Wyndham and Mataura clubs on winning the A and B- grade competitions respectively. To those players who were included in the Eastern Southland representative teams congratulations are also conveyed. During the season Yankee tournaments were held on the courts and these were very successful. “The balance-sheet discloses a very fair credit balance and also a credit on the year’s workings of approximately £4.

SWIMMING CENTRE REMIT FOR CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON

Gratitude to members of the executive of the Southland Swimming Centre for their co-operation during the year was expressed bj/ the president (Mr J. C. Kirkland) at the executive’s last meeting of the season which was held on Monday night. The New Zealand council advised that the annual conference of centres would be held in Wellington on Labour Day week-end, October 26 to 28. After some discussion on the expense involved in sending a delegate from Southland, Mr Kirkland said he would be in Wellington on business at the time, imd his offer to act for the centre was accepted.
