TRAINING FOR TERRITORIALS
SOUTHLAND MEN TO GO TO DUNEDIN -
CAMP AT FORBURY PARK The Ist Battalion, Southland Regiment, will enter camp at Forbury Park on September 30, and will complete its intensive training on December 21. The Forbury Park Trotting Club has co-operated freely with the Army Department and has placed full facilities at the disposal of the regiment.
When the Southland territorials mobilize for their three months’ intensive training they will find adequate facilities at their disposal. The strength of the battalion will be 773, including 36 officers, 46 warrant officers and sergeants and 691 other ranks. Facilities will be provided for Y.M.C.A. activities. The 3rd Field Regiment, New Zealand Artillery, which is at present undergoing home training at Central Battery and Tahuna Park, Dunedin, will go into camp at the Wingatui racecourse. It comprises the 3rd Field Battery, Dunedin, and the sth Field Battery, Christchurch, and has been under training in Dunedin since the end of last month. Its total strength is 588 all ranks, comprising 35 officers, 40 warrant officers and sergeants, and 513 other ranks. The regiment has completed the elementary side of its training, the excellent weather having allowed the syllabus to be completed up to time. A start was made with technical training last Thursday and good progress continues to be made. While both clubs have made their buildings available to the Army Department, so that the troops may be comfortably accommodated, the usual racing and trotting fixtures will still be held this spring. Some inconvenience to the general public on these occasions will be unavoidable, but every endeavour will be made to reduce it to a minimum.
