THIRD OF NUMBER IN AUCKLAND
HOUSES BEING BUILT BY STATE (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 17. One-third of the aggregate number of houses being built by the State were in Auckland, said the Minister of Housing (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) today. That was not because he had treated the Auckland applicants more favourably than applicants elsewhere, but because Auckland had the men and materials to construct the houses. In 128 cities and towns throughout the Dominion 11,343 houses had been built, or were under construction, the number occupied being 8142, he said.
