NIAGARA FARMER KILLED
RUN OVER BY MOTOR CAR VEHICLE CRANKED WHILE IN GEAR Severe injuries, from the effects of which he died yesterday morning, were suffered by William Haldane, a fanner, aged 74, of Niagara, on Sunday evening when a motor-car which he was cranking and which was in gear ran over him. The accident occurred at Progress Valley, two and a-half miles from Mr Haldane’s home. He was taken to his home, and brought to hospital in Invercargill on Monday. He died at 6.55 o’clock yesterday morning. At an inquest, which was opened by the coroner (Mr R. C. Abernethy, S.M.) yesterday, evidence of identification was given by the deceased’s son, Leslie Harry Haldane. The inquest was adjourned sine die.
MAN’S HAND GRAZED BY SAW When his hand was grazed by a circular saw yesterday, Cecil Finkle, aged 28, of 152 Teviot street, Invercargill, suffered lacerations to his fingers. He was taken to the Southland Hospital. BOY’S HAND GASHED Donald Baker, aged 11, of Te Anau, gashed his hand yesterday with an axe. Ha was brought to Invercargill and admitted to the Southland Hospital last night.
