It was reported to a meeting of the Otago Swimming Centre that during the past year no fewer than 2222 children in the Otago district had been taught to swim. Altogether, 2073 certificates had been issued, including 810 to beginners, 686 to learners, 176 merit, and 401 proficiency. In addition, 149 certificates had been issued as a result of the centre’s annual “learn to swim”
