Fair To Fine Inland

WELLINGTON, September 16. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Light to fresh winds, varying from between west and .south. Some scattered showers on the coast. ’Weather fair to fine inland. Temperatures cold; seas slight to moderate.

Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather unsettled in the eastern districts between East Cape and Banks Peninsula, with rain at times; changeable and showery over the remainder of the North Island and Southland; elsewhere fair to fine. Temperatures cqld, with snow on the ranges of the North Island and hard frosts in the southern half of the

South Island. General Situation. —A vigorous depression is centred over the Gisborne district and is moving slowly towards the East. An anti-cyclone covers south-eastern Australia and the North Tasman sea.

Winds. —From a southerly quarter predominating, fresh to strong about and north of Cook Strait; elsewhere mainly moderate. Seas (New Zealand waters). —Moderate south of Farewell Spit and Akaroa and inshore north of East Cape; elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea.— Strong south-westerly winds and rough seas.
