Fair To Fine (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, September 15. Following is the special forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office:— Moderate south-westerly winds; weather fair to fine but cold; seas slight to moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather unsettled generally with intermittent rain and with some heavy falls in the central provinces; improving tomorrow in Westland and Southland, however, and conditions north of Taranaki and south of Marlborough provinces becoming more of the changeable showery type; temperatures cold with snow on the ranges. General Situation. —A secondary depression is located west of Cook Strait and is deepening fairly rapidly. An anticyclone centred over south-eastern Australia extends on to the north-west Tasman Sea. Winds.—Moderate to fresh northerlies to westerlies at first * over the North Island; fresh to strong southerlies over the South Island, southerlies gradually extending over the North Island during the next 24 to 36 hours and possibly reaching gale force about Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand water). —Slight to moderate south of Farewell Spit and north of East Cape, elsewhere becoming rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman S ea .—Strong south to south-west winds to gales; seas rough.

The weather in Invercargill during the week-end was dull and wet. The sky was overcast throughout Saturday and rain fell for most of the afternoon and evening. The weather showed a slight improvement yesterday, rain falling only at intervals. The weather at 1 o’clock this morning was cold, calm and slightly overcast.
