N.Z. POLICE ELECT OFFICERS
ASSOCIATION MEETS AT WELLINGTON
The annual conference of the New Zealand Police Association was held in Wellington, delegates representing all districts being present. The Commissioner of Police, Mr D. J. Cummings, who opened the conference, was welcomed by the president, Mr J. B. Young, senior detective at Wellington. Mr Cummings referred to the loyalty shown by all men in the force during the past difficult year. There had hot been a single case where a man had not done his extra duty cheerfully and willingly.
The Minister in Charge of the Police Department (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser), whose official duties had prevented him from attending the opening, was present later in the day and addressed the men. He also expressed his appreciation of their loyalty during the year. Many remits were discussed as well as matters of general interest in connection with the work of the members.
During the conference all delegates waited on the Minister and the Commissioner to discuss topics connected with the association.
Mr T. Kelly, Auckland, acted as chairman at the conference. ■ The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: —President, Mr J. B. Young; vice-president, Mr W. R. Murray; management committee, Messrs W. H. Andrews, A. C. Davis, F. H. Healey, J. W. McHolm, C. S. Rouxel, C. E. Tanner, J. Tither, S. Williams and one further member to be added.
The appointment of Mr J. Meltzer as permanent general secretary was confirmed by the conference.
