PUKERAU “The final payment of l|d per lb of butterfat for the 1938-39 season brought the payment for that year to 17.733 d per lb of butterfat. This season’s advances have been at 1/4 per lb butterfat, or an average of 15.990 d over all grades,” states the 31st annual report of the Pukerau Dairy Factory Company ■Ltd., to be presented to the annual meeting on September 19. “A further payment of lOd will be made when the balance of the cheese in cool store has been shipped. In this estimate, cheese in store has been taken into account at the Government price, allowance having been made for all charges to f.0.b.; and'stocks of cheese held for local sale have been valued at 7d per lb. “The output of cheese for the season was down by 6) tons to 149 tons 15cwt. “It is recommended that a dividend on share capital be paid at the rate of 4 per cent. “The retiring directors are Messrs R. J. Potter and A. Herron, both of whom are eligible and offer themselves for re-election. Mr James Collett has tendered his resignation from the board of directors and a further nomination will be required to replace him.”
SMALL ENTRIES IN ALL CLASSES STOCK SALE HELD AT WYNDHAM
There was a small entry of all classes of stock yarded for the Wyndham stock sale. In the sheep section very few heavy wethers were penned and these sold at about 2/- below last sale’s rates. Other pens, light and -unfinished, were harder to sell and prices dropped considerably on late rates. The balance of the sheep yarding was mostly medium wether hoggets which sold well up to late rates. There was a medium yarding of fat cattle, but the quality was not as good as last sale. There was a fair demand and prices showed a slight decline. Good store cows and heifers were in demand and made slightly over last sale’s rates. Dairy cows at profit were in demand and prices were equal to late sales. Henderson and Co., Ltd., 501d.—53 f. and f.m. ewes at 17/9, 39 wether hoggets at 24/2. 1 fat cow at £7/15/-, 1 fat heifer at £7/15/-, 1 store cow at £4, 1 dairy cow at £l4/10/-, 1 at £l4, 1 at £lO/5/-, 1 at £9, 1 at £B/15/-, I at £B/10/-, 1 at £7/17/6, 2 dairy heifers at £lO/10/-, 2 at £lO/5/-. The National Mortgage and Agency Co., Ltd., sold.—6o ewes and lambs at 12/6; one fat heifer at £l5/10/-, fat bullocks at £l6 and £l4, fat cows at £l2/5/- down to £5/15/-, 5 store steers at £lO/5/-, 3 yearling heifers at £3/16/-, 3 yearling steers at £4, and II at £4/17/6.

FAIR YARDING OF SHEEP FORWARD STOCK SALE HELD AT OTAUTAU A fair yarding of sheep came forward for yesterday’s sale at Otautau. Included in the offering were several pens of good quality ewe hoggets and a few pens of full and failing-mouth ewes. The market was slightly easier than that of a few weeks ago, but there was keen competition, more especially for Romney ewe hoggets.
Best Romney ewe hoggets sold at up to 35/-, medium 30/- to 32/-, smaller to 25/-. Wether hoggets realized up to 21/- and smaller to 17/-. Full and failing mouth ewes brought up to 25/1, medium 20/- to 22/-, and poorer sorts to 12/-.
A small entry of cattle realized full market rates.
Following were some of the sales: J. E. Watson and Co., Ltd., sold: Twenty ewe hoggets at 35/-, and 246 al 35/-.
Wright, Stephenson and' Co., Ltd., sold: One hundred ewe hoggets at 34/3, 51 at 33/-, 120 at 33/3, 88 at 33/-, 12 at 25/-, 107 ewes at 24/1, 50 at 26/1, 1 dairy cow at £6, 5-year-old draught gelding at £26, 1 gelding at £lO. The Southland Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Ltd., sold: Twenty-seven m.s. cull hoggets at 13/3, 120 ewe hoggets at 34/6. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., sold: Three cull lambs at 12/7, 4 hoggets af 28/9, 31 at 18/3, 54 6 and 8-tooth ewes at 26/1, 1 wether at 14/6, 42 hoggets at 30/3,' 53 ewes at 26/6, 4 pigs at 25/6, 2 at 31/-, 1 at 30/6, 2 at 27/6, 2 at 30/-, 1 at 29/-, 2 at 26/6,11-year-old mare at £l2/10/.-, 3-year-old filly at £9/10/-, aged mare at £6/10/-, 10-year-old gelding at £l2/10/-, aged gelding at £B. J. R. Mills and Son, Ltd., sold: Two wethers at 36/-, 92 ewes at 21/1, 2 cows at £7/10/-, 1 yearling at £l/15/-, 4-year-old mare at £24, 1 hack at £7. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., sold: Thirty-four hoggets at 32/9, 1 cow at £7/10/-, and 1 bull at £3.
