AUSTRALIAN SHOWS NOT CANCELLED

The comment made at a meeting of the Manawatu A. and P. Association in Palmerston North recently that all agricultural and pastoral shows in Australia were being cancelled for the duration of the war is not entirely correct, according to private advice received in New Zealand.

A cablegram was sent to Australia asking for information about the reported cancellation, and the following reply was received: —

“No concerted action. Central State organization urging carry on. Cancellations because of military occupation and voluntarily because of petrol restriction probably 30 per cent.” It is understood that the Victorian Royal Show has been cancelled because of military occupation of the ground. The Victorian society, however, plans to run its show in series on country grounds.
