JUTE AND HESSIAN GOODS
ARRANGEMENTS MADE FOR SUPPLY TO N.Z. (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 13. According to a statement by the Minister of Supply (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) shipping arrangements have been made with the United Kingdom Government to supply New Zealand with jute and hessian goods required for both primary and secondary production within the Dominion. A vessel is scheduled to arrive in New Zealand before the wheat harvest. The Minister draws the attention of importers of jute goods to the fact that there is virtually no possibility of the usual March-April steamer being available for direct shipment to New Zealand in 1941 and as a result of negotiations with Britain it has been agreed that two direct shipments from Calcutta will be sufficient to supply New Zealand’s annual requirements. The vessels will, it is expected, leave about the middle and the end of next year. The Minister also urges manufacturers and others to utilize second-hand sacks to the greatest degree possible.
