Scattered Rain (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, September 13. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong northerly winds, probably changing to south-wester-lies during the afternoon or evening. Weather fine and mild at first, but with scattered rain developing later. Seas moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fair to fine at first, but scattered rain developing during tomorrow in Southland and Westland and later extending as far north as South Canterbury. Temperatures mild in the south and moderate in the north. General Situation. —The anti-cyclone over New Zealand is losing intensity and is beginning to move towards the north-east. An extensive depression is located in the south-west Tasman Sea. Winds.—Moderate to strong northerlies from Cook Strait southwards; elsewhere light to moderate and variable breezes; a change to fresh south-wester-lies likely in the far south after about 24 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters). —Becoming rather rough south of Westport. Elsewhere slight or moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Northerly winds, strong in the central and southern portions and backing to the south-west in 12 to 24 hours. Winds light to moderate in the north. Sea rough in the south, but moderate in the northern portion. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was warm and sunny. It changed last night, when light rain fell for an hour or two. The weather at 1 o’clock this morning was cold and overcast with a wind from the north-west.
